Our mission

More sail, less fuel.

Our mission is to develop passenger sailing wherever possible.

OK, but what for? To offer a low-carbon alternative to conventional means of transport: motorised shuttles, ferries and planes. Basically, we want to become the preferred transport solution where rail is not possible (on the water).

This is essential because tourism accounts for 11% of greenhouse gas emissions in France, 77% of which are due to transport. The norm seems to have become “ever faster, ever further”. Fast, affordable planes and huge, comfortable ferries link continents as quickly as they disconnect us from our environment.

At Sailcoop, we also like to travel. But we’re aware that this race for ever more is a direct threat to our living conditions on earth. So we’ve decided to encourage a different way of getting around. By slowing down (a little) and reducing our impact (a lot). To do this, we’re using a natural resource that’s infinitely available: the wind. We’re giving new impetus to sailing transport to provide unforgettable experiences while limiting our impact on the environment.

Our commitments

Slow down

At first sight, if you’re promised that you’ll reach your destination more slowly, it doesn’t sound very appealing. But at Sailcoop, slowing down means :

  • letting yourself be carried along by the wind and the current,
  • living a powerful and friendly experience,
  • taking the time to observe marine animals,
  • talking to skippers who are happy to pass on their passion.

Reducing pressure on the environment

With the wind as our engine, we can considerably reduce our use of diesel. This means several things:

  • Less oil extraction (and less dependence)
  • Fewer CO2 emissions
  • Fewer discharges into the ocean
  • Less impact on biodiversity
  • And above all, much, much more fun.

Promoting transport by sail.

For 8,000 years, sailing has been an instrument for the development of civilisations. But the invention of the steam engine, followed by civil aviation in the 1920s, relegated sailing to the ranks of leisure, sport and lifestyle. Today, there are a few of us who firmly believe that sailing is the way of the future: it’s reliable, environmentally friendly and, despite everything, fast enough.

Developing Sailcoop also means giving credibility to transport by sail and making its voice heard until it (re)becomes the norm.
